CAL FIRE SRA Tree Mortality Grants
CalFireLogoNew.jpg
In January 2017, Tuolumne County was awarded nearly $2.4 million in CAL FIRE State Responsibility Area (SRA) Tree Mortality Grant funding.  The funding is broken into two separate projects described below:

1.  Approximately $1.6 million to assist homeowners with the removal of dead and dying trees that can strike the primary residence.  A primary residence is defined as the structure that is habitable, and does not include detached garages, workshops, sheds, barns, or outbuildings. OES staff broke the county into 10 zones, each with $200,000 in funding for tree removal.  This map shows the zones broken out and the preliminary project areas in each zone.  You can use the zoom feature on the map for more detail.

Originally, the program was going to require a share of cost to homeowners; however, it was determined that this was not a viable option and instead there will be no share of cost to homeowners and the program will allow for up to $5,000 of tree removal on each parcel.  The homeowner may elect to privately contract with the the tree removal company for additional work while trees are being removed on their property.  Any additional work above the $5,000 will be at the homeowners expense.

Right of Entry permits will be sent to the homeowners in these project areas in early May 2017.
Please note: Zones 6 and 9 did not receive funding in this grant cycle, therefore no projects are scheduled in those zones.

2.  In addition to the $1.6 million for private property,
$800,000 was dedicated to tree
removal on County Service Area Roads.
500 letters were sent out to homeowners in the
following CSA areas
with a Right of Entry permit requiring signature to move
forward
 with tree marking and felling.
The CSA that are in the current project zones are:

  • Zone 1: Columbia Vista
  • Zone 3: Cedar Ridge-Kewin Mill Rd, Chapperal Heights Unit 2,
                       Comstock Ranch, Deer Park-Ferrari Rd.
  • Zone 4: Black Oak Estates, Gina Ave., Manzanita Dr.,
                       Twain Harte Heights.
